Waking up in our Junior Suite we couldn’t have been happier. The sun was shining and we had a day of spa action plus a treatment each booked in. First off though, we had to try the breakfast. This is held in the restaurant area between 7am-9.30am Monday to Friday and then 8am-10am over the weekend for those who like to sleep in a bit later. A really nice touch.
The selection at breakfast is actually really decent. The standard ingredients to put together your own full English breakfast are all present. If you fancy something lighter, there is yogurt, cereals, a toast station and fresh fruit displayed along the large table in the centre of the room.
We went for the full English along with some coffee, a great way to start the day. The breakfast was really good and worth the money if you take it as an add-on. With the weather being bright and sunny you get a beautiful view across the garden area from the conservatory windows while you eat.
With breakfast a success, we returned to the room in order to get ready for the spa. We had two back massages booked in for mid-morning, our first ever experience of one in actual fact. The process is pretty simple, you get given a form each similar to at the dentist. The form details any allergies or skin conditions you may have so they can adjust the treatments accordingly.
We sat on the comfy chairs in the lounge area while the therapists prepared the treatments. Many people took the back massage option but there are many treatments available such as full body massage and facials amongst others. After meeting my friendly therapist, I got taken into a dark room with just a table for company, it was all rather mysterious at this point.
Once you’re laid onto the table face-down speaking into a towel, you’re experience begins. Honestly, I would do it all over again. The therapists are really friendly and enjoy a good chat while releasing all the tension and knots from within your muscles. I have never felt so loose in my back area, it creeps up on you how much your back goes through day to day.
The massage had done the trick and we both left feeling refreshed. It’s worth noting that although the treatment is listed at 20 minutes, it begins from the moment that you check in with the therapist by handing over your form. So if you take an age getting dressed and leaving the room after your treatment, you will cause a backlog.
With my muscles completely relaxed, we headed for the pool. The system here involves checking into the spa, getting and towel each and a locker key from reception and heading into the changing area. This is a roman spa so unless you are a family or have a disability, there are no cubicles – just an open changing room.
The locker keys don’t really attach onto your shorts or costume but many people left towels on the loungers around the pool. It’s also worth noting that there’s no lifeguard on duty so if you come with children or people who are not the strongest at swimming, keep an eye on them.
The pool area itself is fantastic though. A standalone jacuzzi was very popular but if you can’t get in there, there’s a jacuzzi within the pool itself. We loved it. The pool is about 25 metres and good for both exercising or relaxing. There’s also a small pool for kids.
Right beside the pool you have the sauna and a steam room. We tried both and loved both, although the steam room is literally like breathing in hot steam. Good supposedly for your lungs, we came out very refreshed. The sauna has more of a dry heat but again, a really good experience and very popular with the guests.
If you fancy a drier workout then the gym is right beside the pool. Here you have a good selection of treadmills from which you can get a view across the whole pool area while you clock up the miles.
The spa was definitely more popular on the weekend. Ladies come for girls weekends away and parents treat their kids to the pool. It was so peaceful and relaxing the entire time we spent chilling at the spa, this is undoubtedly the jewel in the Sketchley Grange crown, we loved it.
