Following on from our magical experience at Luna Outdoor Cinema at Chatsworth House, we headed indoors for a more traditional evening at the movies. The whole idea of unique cinema experiences had got us thinking what else is available in the local area. Leicester’s Cinema De Lux offers quite the special evening in its famed Director’s Hall.
Tickets for The Director’s Hall come in at £15.60 ($20.43 US) compared to a regular ticket price of between £9-10 ($11.79-13.10 US). We were excited to watch the latest installment of the Mission Impossible series starring Tom Cruise – and we were about to do it in style.
So what do you get for that extra fiver? Well, for starters you get to enjoy the peace and glamour of a rather posh bar area. Inside The Directors Lounge, the bar area, you can enjoy cocktails and light meals – all of which at a very fair price considering the daylight robbery prices of popcorn downstairs.
Oh yes, there’s also popcorn, but good news film fans – this is complimentary along with a free soft drink. We decided to begin with a couple of cocktails. A Cosmopolitan and Sex on the Beach. Both cocktails coming in at a respectable £5.50 each ($7.20 US).
Our cocktails arrived looking the part. Freshly made and both with good flavour, things certainly were off to a great start. I would highly recommend arriving a little earlier for your showing as you get to really enjoy the surroundings of the bar and chill before heading into the screen.
As the lounge filled up with the movie start time getting ever closer, everyone was in good spirits. The staff come round and let you know when the screen is ready so no need to form a queue, just sit back, relax and let the experience take its course.
Once inside the cinema, we were very impressed. The seats are huge! Each one comes with its own swivel tray for your food and drink along with a cup holder between the seats. The distance between rows is generous too, allowing that secluded feeling so you can fully stretch out and recline back in your chair.
We balanced our coca cola, lemonade and popcorn on our handy tray and watched as other cinema goers had their drinks orders brought into them – now this is living. Honestly, it was like a business class flight but in movie form.
So, what about the movie? It’s a real blockbuster. MI:2 was the first film that I ever watched in the series but this movie, Mission Impossible: Fallout completely put it in the shade. Tom Cruise seems to be getting better with age, as do his stunts, which incredibly he does himself.
The whole runtime for the film was 147 minutes, a long one when you look at it that way. The movie flew by though as we were glued to the intense action scenes throughout, you have to go and see it. The film completely surpassed my expectations.
We didn’t get out of the cinema until the early hours of the morning. It had all been worth it though. The Director’s Hall is well worth forking out the extra for. In actual fact, when you price up a regular ticket plus popcorn and a drink it equivalates to what you pay for The Directors Hall. For me, there is no comparison. I will be watching all of my movies this way from now on.
